Key Facts – Analysing the Youngest Players to Score Test 300s

The top 5 (Sobers, Bradman, Hutton, Hanif, Lara) all achieved their triple centuries before turning 25 years old, showcasing incredible early career dominance.

There are only four batters who have scored two (more than one) triple tons, and you can find the comprehensive list of all Test triple centurions here in this article.

A significant number of these triple centuries (Bradman, Hutton, Lara, Nair, Rowe, Cowper) were scored against England.

West Indies (Sobers, Lara, Rowe, Gayle) has four entries. Australia (Bradman, Cowper) has two. India (Nair, Sehwag) has two.

Sehwag, Nair, and Gayle represent some of the faster triple centuries in terms of balls faced (though Sobers and Hanif’s ball counts are unknown from this table, their eras typically had slower scoring rates).

Andy Sandham, Test cricket’s first-ever triple centurion, also holds the record as the oldest player to score a 300, achieving the feat at 39 years and 271 days.

India’s Karun Nair holds a unique Test record. The Indian triple centurion scored his 303* in just his 3rd Test match, the fewest appearances for any player to reach the 300-run mark. He was also the 6th youngest at 25 years and 10 days.
