Team-Centric Insights on T20I Six-Hitting Records

Record-Breaking Team Six-Hitting Milestones

West Indies is the first team to hit 1000 sixes in T20 Internationals. The Men in Maroon (West Indies) also top the most sixes/innings column, with an average of hitting around 7 sixes every innings.

New Zealand and India are the next teams to follow the Caribbean nation in reaching the 1000 sixes landmark in T20Is.

A total of seven teams have surpassed the 1000 sixes milestone in the T20 International format. The other teams apart from the three mentioned above are: South Africa, Pakistan, Australia, and England.

T20I Team Batting Efficiency Comparison

Afghanistan is another side that has been impressive with their six/innings ratio. Afghanistan has hit more sixes than Sri Lanka, even after playing 50 lesser games than the Lankan side.

Among the top ten sides, the Asian nations Sri Lanka and Pakistan have the lowest sixes/innings ratio, suggesting a more traditional or boundary-reliant batting approach.

India’s six-hitting has become an aggressive constant in the last few years, reflecting a strategic shift towards modern, power-first T20 cricket.

India’s success in six-hitting is heavily reliant on key individuals: Rohit Sharma has contributed a substantial chunk of the team’s sixes, with the aggressive support of newer stars like Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma further boosting the overall team strike rate.

Associate Nations Reaching Six-Hitting Milestones

A significant number of Associate nations are climbing the all-time six-hitting charts, with UAE, Nepal, Bahrain, Malaysia, Austria, Kuwait, and Hong Kong having all surpassed 500+ sixes already.

The performance of Austria in 2025 highlights the emerging power-hitting trend, as they hit more than 300 sixes in a year for the first time.

This milestone was largely due to Karanbir Singh (AUT), who became the first player ever to hit 100+ T20I sixes in a year.

Individual and Single Innings Dominance for the Top teams

Chris Gayle, also known as the Universal boss, is the first player to have hit 500+ sixes in all three formats together, and stands only below Rohit Sharma in the top six-hitter charts in international cricket across formats.

The Left-handed Caribbean opener has himself hit 1000 sixes in T20 cricket (across all leagues and internationals). For the full list of player records, check out the Most Sixes in T20I Cricket – player specific article.

The record for the most sixes hit by a team in a single T20I innings is 27, set by Zimbabwe against Gambia, which can be explored further in the detailed list of Most Sixes in a T20I Innings by a Team.
