Most Centuries by a Wicketkeeper Across All International Formats

Over the years, the role of the wicketkeeper has undergone a lot of transformation. Nowadays, they are not just tasked with keeping the wickets but also need to step up by scoring significant knocks whenever the opportunity comes.

The likes of Adam Gilchrist, Kumar Sangakkara, and MS Dhoni set the bar high with their keeping and striking skills. And now the upcoming keeper-batters are emulating these legends with their stunning glove work and penchant for smashing triple-digit knocks.

This article will list the top 10 wicketkeepers with the most centuries in all formats combined (Test + ODI + T20I).

Key Insights

Adam Gilchrist holds the record for smashing the most centuries as a wicketkeeper in all formats combined. The Australian batter scored 33 hundreds, with 16 coming in ODIs and 17 in Tests, the most hundreds in Tests by a keeper-batter. Interestingly, all of Gilchrist’s 16 ODI hundreds came in wins for Australia!

Kumar Sangakkara has garnered the most runs as a designated wicketkeeper across three formats. The Sri Lankan batting maestro scored 17840 runs in 474 innings at an average of 41.87.

Gilchrist and Sangakkara are the only two keeper-batters to score 15000+ runs and 30+ hundreds in all formats combined. India’s MS Dhoni is the only other keeper with 15000+ runs (17266), though he notched up 16 tons.

These three keeper-batters have more than 110 fifty-plus scores each, with Sangakkara having the most (140), followed by Dhoni (124) and Gilchrist (112).

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock is the only other wicketkeeper to have more than 90 fifty-plus knocks across formats. (You can check out de Kock’s hundred list here.)

Gilchrist registered as many ducks (33) as his number of centuries across three formats. He holds the joint record with Mark Boucher for scoring the most ducks as wicketkeepers in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is combined.

Captain Cool MS Dhoni is the only player to smash more than 10 centuries while donning the hats of captain and keeper at the same time.
