South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and the USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra hold the joint record for the most runs scored in a single over in ODIs. Both struck six sixes in an over, 36 runs, against Daan van Bunge (Netherlands) and Gaudi Toka (PNG) in 2007 and 2021, respectively.
Gibbs’ 36-run effort is also the highest in an over in an ODI World Cup match.
Malhotra’s 36 runs, meanwhile, are the most by a batter in the 50th over in an ODI innings.
Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera is the only player to score and concede 30-plus runs each in an over in ODIs. He first hammered 34 runs against Robin Peterson (South Africa) in 2013 and conceded as many runs against James Neesham (New Zealand) in early 2019.
AB de Villiers is the only batter with three instances of scoring 30 or more runs in an over in ODIs.
