Key Insights – Most Runs vs Single Opponent in Asia Cup

Highest Run Tally

Sanath Jayasuriya has amassed the most runs against a single team in the ODI Asia Cup. The former Sri Lankan batter scored 562 runs in 11 innings against India.

Jayasuriya is the only batter to smash three centuries against two opponents — India and Bangladesh — in the ODI Asia Cup.

Best Batting Averages

Sourav Ganguly holds the record for the highest average by a batter against a team in the ODI Asia Cup (minimum 200 runs). He averaged 268 while scoring 268 runs in three innings against Bangladesh. His tally included knocks of 73*, 135*, and 60.

Inzamam-ul-Haq (119.50 vs Bangladesh), Arjuna Ranatunga (113.50 vs Bangladesh), Shoaib Malik (107 vs India), and Younis Khan (105.50 vs Hong Kong) are the other batters with a 100-plus average against an opponent in the ODI Asia Cup.

Captain and Wicketkeeper Records

Arjuna Ranatunga scored 357 of his 366 runs against India as Sri Lanka’s captain, the most by a skipper against an opponent in the ODI installation.

The 394 runs amassed by Kumar Sangakkara against India came as a keeper-batter, the most by a wicketkeeper against an opponent in the ODI Asia Cup. He is also the only keeper to score 200-plus runs against three teams in the tournament: 306 vs Pakistan & 282 vs Bangladesh.

Other Notable ODI Records

Rohit Sharma’s 434 runs against Pakistan include six fifty-plus scores, the most by a batter against a team in the ODI Asia Cup.

Seven batters have scored 200-plus runs at a 50-plus average against two teams in the ODI Asia Cup.

T20 Asia Cup Records

Babar Hayat was the first batter to aggregate 100-plus runs against an opponent in the T20 Asia Cup. He was, in fact, the first centurion in the T20I tournament, having amassed 122 off 60 balls against Oman in 2016.
