England holds the record for the largest Test win by an innings margin, defeating their arch-rivals, Australia, by an innings and 579 runs in the 1938 Oval Test.

This was made possible by their (highest-ever) first-innings total of 903 for 7, which was England’s highest team total in Tests and is now the second-highest of all time.

Australia has the largest innings victory in an away Test, having defeated South Africa by an innings and 360 runs in Johannesburg in 2002.

Four of these wins each for England came against Australia and India, which is the most such victories by a team against a single Test opponent.

New Zealand has beaten Zimbabwe by an innings and 300-plus run margin in two Tests, the most by a team against a specific opponent. In fact, New Zealand’s top three innings wins have all come against Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh has conceded 10 defeats by an innings and 200-plus run margins, the most by a Test team. And, here is another Bangladesh’s unwanted Test record as a team.

Zimbabwe has suffered six home Test losses by an innings and 200-plus run margin, the most by a team. They have lost three Tests each in Bulawayo and Harare, which is the most for a team at a home venue.

The West Indies have conceded seven defeats by the same margin in away conditions, the most by a team in Tests.
