Delhi Capitals is one of the most underperforming sides in IPL history. They’ve always had some great players of the t20 format, but they have not succeeded in the league till now. They are the only team to have not been featured in the IPL finals even once. Things looked a little better last season with a revamped management; they did well in the auction last year and qualified for the play-offs.
They have a strong squad this season and will surely hope to win the title this season. This is our probable playing XI of the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2020:
1. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan will open for the Delhi Capitals. He is one of the most important players for Delhi. The southpaw is known for his consistent performances in the IPL and can score very quickly in the powerplay and an excellent start to the side, which is very important. He scored 521 runs in 16 games, averaging 34.73 and striking at 135.67. Team management will love to see a similar performance from him this year.
2. Prithvi Shaw
Young Prithvi Shaw will be the other opener; he is known for his explosive batting at the top. He has already shown glimpses of what he can do on the cricket field in the last season. Rated very highly by the cricket experts, Shaw scored 353 runs in 16 games last season and has scored 598 runs in 25 games in the IPL. He indeed has the potential, and expectations are high from him.
3. Shreyas Iyer
Skipper Shreyas Iyer will bat at 3 for his team. He plays spin and pace well, can score quickly in the middle overs, and can hold one end in case of a batting collapse. He scored 463 runs last season. He is one the pillars of DC batting this season, and the team would love to see their captain stepping up to the occasion.
4. Shimron Hetmyer
Shimron Hetmyer didn’t have an excellent start to his IPL career. He was dropped after a few bad games in the RCB set up and scored a brilliant 75 in the last round. Everyone knows how good he is in the shortest format. He is in great touch and is the leading run-scorer in the CPL after league stages. He will surely want to make a name for himself in the IPL this season.
5. Rishabh Pant (wk)
Rishabh Pant is the superstar of IPL. He has a phenomenal record in the IPL. He can destroy any bowling line-up on his day. He scored 488 runs in 16 games in 2019, striking at 162.66! His career strike rate is 162.69, which shows how dangerous he is in the IPL. He can be promoted according to the situation. He is the best batsman in the Delhi squad, and the management will want him to do what he does the best.
6. Axar Patel
Axar Patel will bat at 6 for the Delhi Capitals as the Australian Marcus Stoinis will join the squad after the first game due to the quarantine rules. Patel is a handy lower-order batsman and a good left-arm orthodox bowler. He scored 110 runs and picked 10 wickets in 14 games last season. He will surely want to improve on that, and Delhi will expect him to do better this season.
7. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravi Ashwin has joined the Delhi Capitals for this year’s IPL. The off-spinner is a perfect buy considering the experience he brings in the side. The conditions in the UAE will also suit him well. Ashwin had 15 wickets in 14 games last season and is an experienced campaigner in the IPL. He is also very handy with the bat, and Delhi will want some good performances from him in IPL 2020.
8. Kagiso Rabada
Protea speedster Kagiso Rabada will lead the pace attack of the Delhi Capitals. He was exceptional for them last season with 25 wickets in just 12 games, being the second-highest wicket-taker that season. He is a genuine wicket-taker and will be very crucial for the Delhi Capitals this season. He is the go-to bowler for captain Shreyas Iyer, and Delhi fans are expecting to see stumps uprooting off his bowling this season too.
9. Amit Mishra
Veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra will be the leg spinner in the side. He has over 150 wickets in the league (157) and has three hat tricks to his name, the most in the IPL history. Mishra is a very clever bowler and has already shown what he is capable of in the previous seasons of the IPL. He has performed well for the Capitals, and the team will want him to do the same this season. He picked 11 wickets in 11 games last season.
10. Ishant Sharma
Indian speedster Ishant Sharma will assist Kagiso Rabada in the side. His duty will be to bowl in the powerplay and pick early wickets for his team. He has been in great form in test cricket and will be an essential player for the Delhi side in IPL 2020 due to his experience. He picked 13 wickets in 13 games last season.
11. Anrich Nortje
Anrich Nortje has joined the DC squad as a replacement for the English all-rounder Chris Woakes. Another protea pacer who is very quick and hits the deck hard. Nortje can prove to be very important in the middle and death overs for the Delhi Capitals, and the hard wickets in the UAE will suit him too. Anrich Nortje will want to perform well in his debut IPL season.
