After a dismal run in consecutive seasons, the Delhi based franchise decided to revamp their entire team with a new name, jersey, think-tank, and a young skipper in Shreyas Iyer. The team also got instant results as the Delhi Capitals made it to the playoffs for the first time in 7 years. Now that the IPL is just around the corner, let us look at 5 key players who will play a pivotal role for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season of IPL.

You can check into our picking on the possible starting XI for all eight IPL teams here.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

The former Rajasthan Royals skipper has a new home now. With tons of experience under his belt, both as a player and a captain, he has a huge role to play in the top-order to give some reliable start to the team and handle challenging situations with ease. He can also be helpful to Shreyas Iyer in terms of decision making while in pressure situations. He also has a lot to prove to the selectors to make a comeback into the limited-overs format, keeping in mind the consecutive T20 World Cups in the next two years.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

One of India’s best-ever off-spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin has been a find from the IPL when he first played for Chennai Super Kings. Having to lead the Kings XI Punjab previously, he will also have a crucial role in putting forward suggestions to Shreyas Iyer for the team’s development. Ashwin will also play an essential role in the DC bowling group with all his experience over the years. He only adds up to the experience of the team besides Dhawan, Rahane & Ishant Sharma.

3. Rishabh Pant

This explosive batsman has been another find of the IPL. Having known for his destructive batting style, he will play a crucial role in DC’s middle-order and put up huge totals for the team. He has been a mainstay in the DC batting order and has also been one of their highest run-getters. He will also look to have a good season behind the stumps and cement his place in the Indian team after the retirement of MS Dhoni.

4. Daniel Sams

The Australian All-rounder has been the latest addition to DC’s line up as Jason Roy’s replacement. After having a dream season in the 2019-20 BBL with the ball and ending up being the highest wicket-taker in the season, he will look to make a name for himself in the all-important IPL, both with the bat and ball. He has also been a handy batsman lower down the order, which will only help the Delhi Capitals gather some runs in the death overs and defend some with the ball besides Kagiso Rabada.

5. Prithvi Shaw

This classy batsman from Mumbai has been a great asset for the Delhi franchise in the last two IPL seasons. After winning the Under-19 World Cup in 2018, he has given some flying starts to DC on top of the order. He also nearly missed out on a maiden IPL hundred in the previous season but had good opening partnerships with Shikhar Dhawan. He will also play a crucial role in taking DC off to some good starts in the power-play overs. He also adds up to the mixed bag of youth and experience present in the Delhi side.
