Key Insights

208 innings taken by Kumar Sangakkara are the fewest by a batter to score 11,000 Test runs. He is also the fastest batter to fetch 9000, 10000, and 12000 runs in Test cricket.

Sangakkara also had the highest average for a batter who surpassed 11,000 runs in Tests. He averaged 57.83 after getting past the mark in 2014.

Alastair Cook (46.45) and Mahela Jayawardene (49.48) are the two batters to average below 50 after crossing 11,000 Test runs.

In early 1994, Allan Border became the first to collect 11,000 runs in Tests. But he took the most innings, 259, on his way to the mark.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul took the longest time, though. The Caribbean batter slogged for 19 years and 261 days to cross the 11,000-run barrier.

Joe Root, on the other hand, is the quickest in terms of time taken. The England batter reached the milestone in 10 years and 170 days.

Root’s countryman, Alastair Cook, is the other batter to score 11,000 Test runs within 11 years. He needed 10 years and 290 days.

While Cook reached the overall landmark in 252 innings, he needed 266 innings as an opener. He is the only opener to aggregate 11,000 Test runs. Find out a compilation of Cook’s Test achievements here.

Cook is also the youngest to score 11,000 Test runs. The former English batter was 31 years and 257 days old.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, though, is the oldest batter. He brought up his 11,000th Test run at the age of 39 years and 110 days. Explore more about Chanderpaul here.
