The attacking tactic has resulted in batters accumulating runs at a higher strike rate by consuming fewer balls. Some batters have even hammered centuries in quick fashion, and a few have done that in their debut T20I matches.

Jean-Pierre Kotze holds the record for smacking the fastest century on debut in T20I cricket. The Namibian batter took a mere 43 balls to score 100 against Botswana in 2019. 

Cyprus’ Taranjit Singh has smashed the quickest fifty by a debutant in T20Is. He took 15 deliveries to reach 50 before getting out on 55 off 17 balls against Estonia in 2024.

Taranjit achieved a strike rate of 323.52 in his knock, the highest by a batter in a debut T20I innings (minimum 15 balls faced).


Highest Individual Score on T20I Debut

Matthew Spoors of Canada smashed the highest individual score on T20I debut. The top-order batter scored an unbeaten 108 in 66 balls against the Philippines.


Notable Milestones in Debut T20I Matches

Canada’s Ravinderpal Singh was the first batter to hammer a hundred on T20I debut. He brought up his hundred in 47 balls before falling for 101 off 48 against Cayman Islands in 2019.

Ricky Ponting became the first batter to score 50-plus runs in the debut match in T20Is. The former Australian skipper whacked an unbeaten 98 against New Zealand in 2005, which was also the first-ever men’s T20I match.
