Kohli captained India in 10 Tests in England, the most by an Indian skipper, followed by MS Dhoni (9).

Mohammad Azharuddin led India in six Tests in England, with four of them ending in draws, the most for an Indian captain.

Colonel CK Nayudu was the first player to lead India in a Test in England. It was back in 1932 when both sides met for the first time in Test cricket.

India’s first Test series victory in England came under Ajit Wadekar’s leadership in 1971. The Indian men won the third match of the series at The Oval. That also marked India’s first series win on English soil, as they pocketed the series 1-0.

Kapil Dev and Rahul Dravid are the others to pull off a Test series victory for India as captain in England. Dev guided the team to a 2-0 triumph in 1986, while Dravid led them to a 1-0 win in 2007.

Dev and Kohli are the two Indian skippers to win two matches each in a single Test series in England. Two of Kohli’s wins came at Lord’s and The Oval in the 2021-22 series.

India lost the most Test matches in England under Dhoni’s captaincy. The Indian men lost seven matches across the 2011 and 2014 series with Dhoni at the helm. This even included a series whitewash in 2011.

Datta Gaekwad, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, and Wadekar are the other skippers to suffer a whitewash in England.
