Key Insights

Between 2021 and 2023, India has only lost one Test series in South Africa in 2022. The Indian team had started the series by winning the first Test match, however, their efforts to keep the African side in check didn’t work, resulting in a series loss. This turned out to be Virat Kohli’s last Test series as captain. (You can check out Kohli’s Test captaincy record here.)

During the same period, India beat England by 3-1 after losing the first match in Chennai. After a few months, the Indian side gave the hosts a run for their money in their backyard, but the series ended in a draw (2-2).

When India toured Bangladesh in December 2022, they registered their 5th Test series win in the neighbouring country. So far, the Men in Blue haven’t lost a series in Bangladesh.

India hosted Australia in February-March 2023 and defeated them by 2-1 margin. After this result, the Indian team retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the 4th consecutive time since 2017.

During India’s first Test match against the West Indies in July 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant 171 runs on his Test debut. This made him the 17th Indian batter to smash a hundred on Test debut, along with registering the third-highest score on Test debut by an Indian batter.

India’s 2nd Test match against South Africa in January 2024 became the shortest completed Test match in terms of balls bowled. The whole Test match lasted for 642 balls, with India emerging as the winners in less than 2 days. This win helped India level the series 1-1 and return home without a defeat in South Africa.
