Nine ducks are the most by a team across both innings combined in a Test match. And three teams have achieved the unfortunate record, with Sri Lanka being the first to do so in 1990, followed by the West Indies (2000) and Bangladesh (2022).
The India vs Sri Lanka Test in 1990 and Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Test in 2022 recorded 11 ducks each, the most in a Test match. While Sri Lanka and Bangladesh contributed nine ducks each, India and Sri Lanka added two each in the respective matches.
There are over 420 instances of teams registering five or more ducks in a Test match. More than 60 instances each belong to Australia and England, thanks to their 100+ years of history in the format.
835 runs scored by India across their both innings against England in 2025 are the most by a team with five or more ducks in a Test match. India had six ducks across both innings.
There are two more instances of a team scoring 700-plus runs with five or more ducks. The West Indies aggregated 733 runs against England in 1930, while Sri Lanka accumulated 714 runs against the same opposition in 2014. Interestingly, England are the opponents in the above three instances.
South Africa’s aggregate of 81 runs across two innings is the lowest for a team with five-plus ducks. This is also the lowest aggregate by a team in Test history. South Africa went down against Australia in 1932 with 36 runs in the first innings and 45 runs in the second innings.
South Africa have logged the highest team total, which involved five or more ducks. They scored 429 runs against Bangladesh in the second innings in the 2008 Centurion Test.
West Indies, on the other hand, put up the lowest team total. They mustered 27 runs against Australia in the fourth innings in the 2025 Kingston Test, as seven of their batters bagged ducks.
