In the One-Day International (ODI) format, the first powerplay is crucial from a batting team’s perspective to scoring runs in bulk. Thanks to the fielding restriction, the batters have a golden opportunity to dig runs in significant numbers.

1: Rohit Sharma is leading the pack, having scored the most runs in the first powerplay in ODIs. The prolific opening batter has amassed over 3350 runs alone in the first 10 overs,  showcasing his penchant to provide flying starts. 

1400: Over 15 batters have accumulated 1400+ runs in the powerplay in ODI cricket. Most of these batters are opening batters, except for India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, who bats at the No. 3 position.

48: Jonny Bairstow has the best batting average in the first 10 overs in the 50-over format. The English keeper-batter averages close to 49 (48.90) with over 1600 runs under his belt.

425: On the other hand, Quinton de Kock has hit the most fours in the said phase. The South African keeper-batter, who retired from ODIs in November 2023, struck 425 boundaries in the first 10 overs.

93: Martin Guptill, who scored 2830 runs, whacked 93* runs against Sri Lanka in the first powerplay — the most by a batter in a single innings in ODIs.
