Smith’s run tally included four hundreds, the joint-most by a batter in a four-Test series, along with George Headley (vs ENG, 1930), Jacques Kallis (vs WI, 2003), and Virat Kohli (vs AUS, 2014/15).

Kohli’s 692 runs on the 2014/15 Australian tour are the most by a batter in a series loss of four Tests.


Highest Average & Away Records

Jacques Kallis averaged 178.00 while aggregating 712 runs in six innings against the West Indies, the highest average by a batter in a four-match Test series.

England’s Patsy Hendren’s 693 runs against the West Indies in 1930 are the most by a batter in an away four-Test series. Hendren crossed the 50-run mark in seven of the eight innings, the most times by a batter in a four-match Test series.


Wicketkeeper, Opener & Captaincy Records

In the same series, England’s Les Ames aggregated 417 runs in eight innings as a wicketkeeper. This is the most runs by a keeper-batter in a four-Test series. His two centuries in the series are also the most as a wicketkeeper.

Double & Triple Centuries

Brian Lara aggregated 500 runs across seven innings in the 2004 home series against England. 400 of his runs came in the first innings of the St John’s Test, the highest individual score in the longest format. Lara’s marathon innings helped the West Indies declare on 751 for 5, their second-highest Test total.

Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke smashed the joint most double centuries in a four-Test series, scoring two each when India toured Australia in 2003/04 and 2011/12, respectively.
