T20 International (T20I) cricket is a format where batters hitting boundaries throughout a match is inevitable. Moreover, it is a sure-shot way of scoring runs at a higher run rate.
So, it is quite obvious the batters will always look to fetch as many fours and sixes as possible to boost their team’s total. And in that process, they also end up accumulating significant runs via boundaries.

Hazratullah Zazai holds the record for scoring the most runs from boundaries in a T20I innings. The Afghan batter accumulated a whopping 140 runs via 11 fours and 16 sixes out of his final score of 162 runs against Ireland in the 2019 Dehradun T20I.
16 sixes by Zazai in his knock are the most by a batter in a T20I innings. And his overall 27 boundaries are also the most by a batter in a T20I innings.
The Czech Republic’s Dylan Steyn and Samoa’s Darius Visser have smashed the most fours in a T20I innings. Both batters struck 17 fours each in their 106 and 107* knocks against Bulgaria and Malaysia in 2022 and 2025, respectively.
There are over 25 instances of batters scoring 100 or more runs from boundaries, with Aaron Finch being the only one to achieve it twice.
Finch is the only batter to amass 120-plus runs by fours and sixes in two different innings, with his final score also going past the 150-run mark. One of his knocks was of 172 runs against Zimbabwe in 2018, which is the highest individual score in T20Is. This is also the highest T20I score by a captain.
Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad scored 93.33 per cent (112) of his runs from boundaries in his knock of 120 runs against Bulgaria in 2025. This is the highest percentage of runs scored by a batter via boundaries in a T20I innings (minimum 100 runs by boundaries).
Fahad reached his 100-run mark off 29 balls against Bulgaria, making him the second-fastest centurion in T20I cricket. This is, however, the fastest T20I century by an opener and a wicketkeeper.
Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, meanwhile, has scored the fastest T20I century off 27 balls against Cyprus in 2024. 132 of his final 144 runs came via boundaries, the second most behind Zazai’s effort.
