Key Insights on Calendar Year Run-Scoring Records in T20 Internationals
Record-Breaking Yearly T20I Run Aggregates and Boundary Count
Austria’s Karanbir Singh has scored the most runs in a calendar year in T20Is. He aggregated 1488 runs in 32 innings in 2025.
The Austrian all-rounder studded his tally with 15 fifty-plus scores, the most by a batter in a calendar year in T20Is.
Karanbir peppered his run tally in 2025 with 127 fours and 122 sixes, the most by a batter in a calendar year in T20Is. He scored about 83.33 per cent (1240) of his runs through boundaries!
While topping the batting chart in 2021, Mohammad Rizwan became the first batter to score 1000-plus runs and 10-plus fifty-plus scores in a calendar year in T20Is.
Rizwan’s 1326 runs in 2021 are the most by a full member batter in a year in T20Is.
Elite Yearly Batting Consistency and Strike Rate Milestones in T20Is
While Rizwan’s average is the best among the above batters, Virat Kohli in 2016 was a much better story. The Indian star averaged 106.83 (including a brilliant World Cup campaign), scoring 641 runs in 16 innings with seven fifty-plus scores (minimum 10 innings).
If it’s the consistency for Kohli, it’s the strike rate for Suryakumar Yadav. He struck at 187.43 while aggregating 1164 runs in 31 innings in 2022, which included a brilliant campaign for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup (minimum 500 balls faced).
India’s Sanju Samson has smashed the most T20I centuries in a calendar year. He surpassed the 100-run mark three times in 2024, the first batter to do so.
Suryakumar is the lone batter to score two centuries each in two different years, in 2022 and 2023. (Check out which batters have smashed the most centuries in T20Is here.)
Home and Away T20I Batting Dominance in a Year
Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett has aggregated the most runs at home in a year in T20Is, scoring 795 runs in 2025. His run tally included seven fifty-plus scores, again the most at home in a year.
659 of Bennett’s 795 runs came at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, the most by a batter at a ground in a year in T20Is.
Bahrain’s Fiaz Ahmed, meanwhile, is the lone batter to score 1000-plus runs in overseas conditions, surpassing the mark in 2025.
Ahmed’s tally of fifty-plus scores, though, is bettered by Karanbir. 11 of his 15 fifty-plus scores came outside Austria, the most by a batter in away T20Is in a year.
