The paramount for a batter to score a bulk of runs at home, a condition where they are acclimatised and familiar to. Their performances at home will hold a lot of value in their career and also help them stay on the team for a long period. Also, it is a good habit to keep churning out runs when a batter is going through a purple patch, especially in home conditions.

Here are the players who have scored the most number of Test runs at home in a calendar year.

34 – Apart from the list, there have been 24 instances of a batter making 800 or more Test runs in a calendar year at their home venue. If we extend this criterion to a minimum of 500 runs, then it has been achieved a whopping 307 times.

2 – Five players, Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, and Matthew Hayden, have breached the 800-run mark at home in two different years.

164.80 – Sri Lankan batter Aravinda de Silva’s (824 in 7 innings) average in 1997 is the highest batting average for a batter scoring 800 or more runs. Michael Clarke follows him with an extraordinary batting average of 156.33, which he accumulated in 2012.

6 – Along with Mohammad Yousuf, De Silva (1997) jointly holds the record of scoring the most home Test centuries in a calendar year. Both of them scored 6 tons respectively at home.
