Top Batting Milestones and Century Makers in SA20 2023

Jos Buttler finished the inaugural edition as the top run-getter, aggregating 391 runs across 11 innings for the Paarl Royals.

Faf du Plessis secured the second spot with 369 runs and etched his name in history by scoring the first-ever century in the league.

The highest individual score of the season was an unbeaten 113 runs from 58 balls, crafted by Faf du Plessis for Joburg Super Kings (JSK) against Durban’s Super Giants (DSG).

Heinrich Klaasen (104*) and Aiden Markram (100) were the only other batters to register centuries during the 2023 season.

Jos Buttler and Heinrich Klaasen shared the record for the most fifty-plus scores in the season, with each recording four such totals.


Best Strike Rates and Boundary Records in the First Edition

Will Jacks recorded the highest strike rate of the tournament (minimum 20 balls faced), scoring 270 runs at a massive rate of 201.49.

The record for the most sixes (check overall list here) in the 2023 season belonged to Will Jacks, who cleared the ropes 19 times for the Pretoria Capitals (PC).

Jos Buttler and Faf du Plessis were the leading boundary hitters in terms of fours, finishing with 36 each.

Heinrich Klaasen stood out as the only player to maintain a batting average above 50 while simultaneously striking at over 150.

David Miller accumulated the most runs without registering a single half-century, scoring 227 runs for Paarl Royals, with a top score of 42 against MI Cape Town.

Matthew Breetzke of DSG achieved the highest batting average of the season, finishing at 62.50 after scoring 125 runs in four innings.

Faf du Plessis set the benchmark for leadership from the front, with his 369 runs being the most by any captain in the first season.

Roelof van der Merwe also maintained the best bowling average of the season, taking his wickets at an average of 9.55 in 10 innings (minimum 30 balls bowled).


Top Wicket Taking Milestones and Hauls

Roelof van der Merwe recorded two four-wicket hauls, including his six-wicket haul, which was the joint-most in the season.

JSK’s Aaron Phangiso also achieved two four-wicket hauls, sharing the season lead with Roelof.
