Historic Bowling Efficiency and Season Records

Reeza Hendricks remains the only bowler in the history of the league to maintain an overall economy rate below four.

The record for the lowest economy rate in a single SA20 season is also held by Reeza Hendricks, who finished the 2023 edition with an economy of 3.20 after conceding just 16 runs in five overs for Joburg Super Kings.

Donovan Ferreira holds a unique record as the only bowler to maintain an economy rate of six or below against three different teams in the league.

Roelof van der Merwe has achieved the lowest bowling average in the SA20, claiming 20 wickets at an elite average of 9.55.

England’s Sam Cook currently holds the record for the lowest bowling strike rate, picking up five wickets at a rate of 9.4.


Top Individual Innings and Economical Spells

Richard Gleeson recorded the best economy rate in an innings in SA20 history during the 2025/26 season, conceding only two runs in a three-wicket spell for an economy of 0.92.

This record-breaking performance by Gleeson occurred while playing for Joburg Super Kings against Durban’s Super Giants.

Conversely, Thomas Kaber logged the worst economy rate in a single innings, conceding 25 runs in his only over for MI Cape Town against Pretoria Capitals in 2024.


Analysis of Expensive Spells and High Economy Rates

Tiaan van Vuuren currently has the worst overall economy rate in the league, conceding 51 runs in four overs at an economy of 12.75.
