Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had a forgettable couple of years in the IPL, and they finished at the bottom of the peril in IPL 2023. As a result, the team management opted to revamp the side by releasing a couple of their high-profile players, including Harry Brook.
With a large purse going into the auction, they have assembled a team comprised of players with big match experience as they pouched the Aussie World Cup-winning duo of Pat Cummins and Travis Head for a large sum before getting Hasaranga for a steal.
Below is how the squad of SRH has shaped up post-auction, and we will deduce the possible playing XI based on this.
SRH squad: Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram (c), Marco Jansen, Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Sanvir Singh, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, T. Natarajan, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Upendra Singh Yadav, Umran Malik, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Shahbaz Ahmed, Travis Head, Wanindu Hasaranga, Pat Cummins, Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Singh, Jhathavedh Subramanyan.
Travis Head returns to the IPL after a while, and after a fierce bidding war for the World Cup and WTC winner, SRH finally got him. He is likely to be slotted at the top of the order alongside either the experienced Indian batter Mayank Agarwal or the talented youngster Abhishek Sharma.
A lot was expected from the former, but he couldn’t deliver in IPL 2023. Either way, we can expect fireworks at the top from SRH batters.
Heinrich Klaasen was the standout batter for the team in IPL 2023, as he emerged as the highest run scorer with 448 runs, and none of the other batters came close to him.
He continued with the same vein of form in international cricket as well, and in the middle order, he will be joined by his Proteas teammate Aiden Markram, who had a disastrous IPL 2023, much like most of his fellow batters, including Rahul Tripathi.
Washington Sundar has improved his big-hitting capabilities down the order and is a safe bet with the ball. So he takes care of both departments, and newly traded player Shahbaz Ahmed may also get a look in due to his all-round prowess.
SRH went on a spree while signing Aussie World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins, and he is a certainty to lead the pace attack alongside the veteran Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been the only constant for the team all these years.
T. Natarajan is likely to add variety as a left-arm pacer and death bowling specialist, with a frontline spinner in Mayank Markande.
The SRH will use pace sensation Umran Malik as the impact player, and his presence will only strengthen their already potent bowling unit.
SRH’s Probable Playing XI: Mayank Agarwal/Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed/Abdul Samad, Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan, Mayank Markande
