Don Bradman holds the record for the most 250-plus scores in Test cricket. The former Australian legend scored four 250-plus scores.
Two of Bradman’s four scores were triple hundreds, the joint-most by a batter in the format. Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, and Virender Sehwag are the other batters with two triple hundreds each.
Lara takes the leap among the four with two 350-plus scores, the only batter to do so. The first of the knocks was 375 in 1994, while the other was an unbeaten 400 in 2004, the highest a batter has scored in a Test. Interestingly, both knocks came against the same opposition, England, at the same venue, Antigua.
Three of Bradman’s 250-plus scores materialised in Test wins, the most by a batter. Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara, Hashim Amla, and Joe Root are the other batters with two 250-plus scores in wins. Find out the highest individual Test scores that came on losing causes.
Seven batters have a score each in the 290s in Tests. While Bradman was the first, Viv Richards, Martin Crowe, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sehwag, Alastair Cook, and Ross Taylor joined the list.
Bradman is the only batter to remain unbeaten on 299 in Tests. Crowe also scored 299 against Sri Lanka, though he was caught out. Explore the batters dismissed most times at 190 scores here.
Ben Stokes has smashed the fastest 250 score in Test cricket. He raced away to the mark in 196 deliveries before his knock came to an end on 258 against South Africa in 2016. This is also the highest score by a No. 6 batter in Tests.
Stokes’ 258 came at a strike rate of 130.30, the highest for a 250-plus score in Tests. Sehwag follows with three of his four knocks coming at a 100-plus strike rate, the only batter to do so. Some fiery batter he was!
All of Sehwag’s 250-plus scores came as an opener, the most by a batter at any position in Tests. Bradman and Sangakkara scored three each at No. 3, while Javed Miandad scored as many at No. 4.
Bradman is the only batter to score a 250-plus score at different batting positions. His other two scores came at No. 5 and No. 7. His 270 at No. 7 is the highest score from No. 6 or lower positions in Tests.
