Key Insights on Leading Player of the Series Winners in T20Is

Consistent Player of the Series Award Winners

Virat Kohli, who retired from T20Is in 2024, was truly phenomenal, with his consistency being on a different level compared to his compatriots during his playing days. He won the Player of the Series award seven times in his T20I career.

Kohli and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan are the only two players to win three or more POTS awards each as captains in T20Is.

Record-Breaking Performances in T20 World Cup History

Kohli stands as the only player to have won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award twice in T20 World Cup history, achieving this distinction in back-to-back tournaments in 2014 and 2016. (You can find the complete list of every T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament winner here.)

Virat Kohli also holds the record for the most Player of the Match awards in T20 World Cup history, with eight accolades earned between 2012 and 2024.

Most Man of the Series Awards by Active T20I Players

Suryakumar Yadav has been a standout performer, earning the POTS honours five times in the T20I series he has played in.

New Zealand’s explosive wicket-keeper batsman, Tim Seifert, has also demonstrated remarkable consistency, collecting four POTS awards in his career.

Babar Azam is once again matching the early career supremacy of Virat Kohli in the shortest format. Let’s wait and see whether he will continue this impressive run in the format and truly claim the mantle in T20Is.

Five or more players each from India and Pakistan have won three or more Player of the Series awards in T20Is.

Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh is the only player from an associate nation to win three or more POTS awards in T20Is.

Unique Statistical Records in T20I Bilateral Series

Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz is the only player to claim two POTS awards in three- or four-team tournaments in T20Is. Both accolades came in back-to-back tri-series played in the UAE and Pakistan in 2025.

Phil Salt has scored the most runs in a T20I bilateral series, aggregating 331 runs for England in the five-match series against the West Indies in late 2023. Although England lost the series, Salt won the POTS award for his superior consistency.

West Indies’ Jason Holder and Bahrain’s Ali Dawood have picked up the joint-most wickets in a T20I bilateral series. Holder claimed 15 scalps in the 2023 home series against England, while Ali Dawood levelled the record on the 2025 Bhutan tour.
