Francois (Faf) du Plessis first played for CSK in 2012 and continued to be with the Dhoni-led side until 2021. In between, when the Yellow Jerseys were banned for two years in 2016 and 2017, he was part of the Rising Pune SuperGiant squad.
Even though Faf didn’t see a healthy start to his IPL career as he had on his Test debut, he was part of a successful CSK side for a longer period.
In the Mega-Auction conducted in 2021, du Plessis was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he led the squad for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. Now the South African has moved to Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2025.

The best year of Faf du Plessis in the tournament came in 2023 (730 runs) when he opened the batting for RCB with Virat Kohli.
Before that, he had a blast with Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK in 2021. The opening pair was a huge success as they played a big part in CSK’s fourth title that year.
The former South African captain has been a major contributor (2721 runs) for the “yellove” side over the years – one of the top five run-scorers for CSK.
Even though Faf didn’t open for his national side across formats, he has seen success in the IPL while opening the batting for his sides. He is among the top ten batters to have scored the most runs as an opener in the IPL.
Despite that, Faf hasn’t scored a hundred in the IPL yet. His best score is 96, which he has scored twice in the IPL, once for CSK in 2019 and the other time for RCB in 2022.
