The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen some of the finest T20 batters ply their trade in the tournament.
These batters have displayed many electrifying knocks, showcasing their power-hitting skills. Some have even hammered hundreds for fun, and that too in record balls.
Scoring a century in the T20 format is a tough task, but the batter’s blades are doing wonders with the game favouring them more.
Here, in this article, we will look at the fastest centuries ever scored in IPL history.
| Player | Balls to 100 | Run Scored | Against | Venue | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Gayle (RCB) | 30 | 175 | Pune Warriors | Bengaluru | 2013 |
| Vaibhav Suryavanshi (RR) | 35 | 101 | GT | Jaipur | 2025 |
| Yusuf Pathan (RR) | 37 | 100 | MI | Mumbai | 2010 |
| Heinrich Klaasen (SRH) | 37 | 105* | KKR | Delhi | 2025 |
| David Miller (PBKS) | 38 | 101 | RCB | Mohali | 2013 |

During his electrifying knock of 175 in 2013 against Pune Warriors, Chris Gayle broke numerous batting records, one of which was the fastest century in IPL history. He took only 30 balls to reach the 100-run mark.
Before Gayle, the record was held by Yusuf Pathan, who scored a 37-ball hundred in the 2010 season for Rajasthan Royals. In 2025, during his debut season, the 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored the fastest century by an Indian batsman, breaking Yusuf’s 15-year-old Indian record.
However, Yusuf’s century is still the quickest by a non-opening batsman. Besides, it remains the fastest century in a losing cause, as the chase was unsuccessful despite Pathan’s magnificence. This is why he is still rated among the most underrated gems of the IPL.
Vaibhav’s 35-ball knock is the fastest century in a successful run chase in IPL history, as RR completed the 210-run chase in just 15 overs—one of the fastest 200+ run chases ever recorded.
The top-ranked player, Gayle, currently sits outside the top five for the fastest IPL fifty. It is Yashasvi Jaiswal who holds that record, with a 13-ball fifty against Kolkata in 2023. Here is the complete list.
Travis Head’s 39-ball hundred for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) helped the team post the IPL’s highest team total on the scoreboard. SRH scored 287 runs in 20 overs, breaking past their own two-week-old record of 277 runs vs MI.
Now let us look into team-wise record holder for the quickest IPL hundreds.

| David Miller | 38 | 101* (38) | Punjab Kings |
| Adam Gilchrist | 42 | 109* (47) | Deccan Chargers |
| Sanath Jayasuriya | 45 | 114* (48) | Mumbai Indians |
| Murali Vijay | 46 | 127 (56) | Chennai Super Kings |
| Virender Sehwag | 48 | 119 (56) | Delhi Capitals |
| Venkatesh Iyer | 49 | 104 (51) | Kolkata Knight Riders |
| Shubman Gill | 49 | 129 (60) | Gujarat Titans |
| Steven Smith | 53 | 101 (54) | Rising Pune Supergiants |
| Rishabh Pant | 54 | 118* (61) | Lucknow Super Giants |
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are the leading teams when it comes to centuries scored in 40 balls or fewer.
Apart from the 12 teams mentioned above, three more teams — the Pune Warriors, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Gujarat Lions — participated in the IPL. However, no batter scored a century for them in the league.
Though topping the fastest century table, RCB also holds the slowest hundreds in the league. Manish Pandey (vs Deccan Chargers, 2009) and Virat Kohli (vs Rajasthan Royals, 2024) completed their three-figure marks in 67 balls.
Shubman Gill’s 49-ball ton for the Gujarat Titans is also the joint-fastest in the IPL Playoffs. Gill scored his third IPL hundred against MI in the 2023 Qualifier 2 match.
Wriddhiman Saha (PBKS vs KKR, 2014 Final) and Rajat Patidar (RCB vs LSG, 2022 Eliminator) are the two other batters to reach their centuries off 49 balls in the Playoffs. (Check out the list of batters with hundreds in the Playoffs here.)
