India’s Confirmed & Likely Super 8 Opponents
Team India has had 3 wins in their first 3 games, confirming their birth in the Super-8 round as X1. Now let’s look into the teams India will be facing in the next round of the T20 World Cup 2026 edition.
1) South Africa (Confirmed Likely Opponent)
India are set to begin their Super 8 campaign against South Africa — widely expected as India’s first opponent in Group X. This is based on ICC’s seeded position, where South Africa takes the X4 spot, and Group X has already been structured before the tournament started.
Match: India vs South Africa — 22 February 2026, Ahmedabad (Narendra Modi Stadium)
2) Zimbabwe (Confirmed Opponent)
With Zimbabwe securing qualification — including a key win over Australia — they’ve taken the Super 8 spot (originally seeded for Australia) and will now join India’s group.
Zimbabwe sealed their Super 8 qualification after their match against Ireland was abandoned, which took them to 5 points — enough to secure a top-two finish in their group.
Match: India vs Zimbabwe — 26 February 2026, Chennai
3) West Indies (Confirmed Group Opponent)
India will play West Indies in the Super 8s. The Windies are already confirmed for the next round and occupy one of the seeded spots in Group X.

Why This Lineup?
Unlike past editions where Super 8 groups were formed based solely on group-stage positions, the 2026 Super 8 matchups were pre-assigned by seed (X1, X2, X3, X4). India are X1, and the other slots (X2–X4) are filled based on which teams qualify from their groups.
That’s why:
- South Africa (X4) is virtually locked in,
- West Indies (X3) is also confirmed, and
- Zimbabwe’s qualifying means they replace Australia in the X2 slot.
