Key Insights – India Test Results in Every Australian Venues

India’s four Test wins at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) are the most for them at an Australian venue.

They have also suffered nine losses at the MCG, the joint-most at an Australian ground along with Adelaide Oval.

India also recorded their first Test win down under at the MCG. India trounced the home side by 222 runs in the 1977 Test. This is India’s second-largest victory margin by runs at an Australian venue.

Their largest win by runs came at the new Perth Stadium in 2024. The Indian men beat the Kangaroos by 295 runs in the first Test of the 2024/25 series. This is India’s fourth-largest away Test win.

India’s heaviest defeat by runs has panned out at the MCG. They conceded a 337-run loss in the 2007 Test.

Brisbane, meanwhile, has seen India lose Tests by the largest innings margin and wickets margin. The Men in Blue succumbed to an innings and 226-run defeat in 1947, while a 10-wicket loss came in 1991. India lost one more match by 10 wickets, though this one was in Adelaide in 2024.

Adelaide has also recorded India’s lowest Test total on Australian soil. The Indian team mustered 36 runs in the third innings of the 2020 Test.

The Men in Blue registered their highest team total at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). They declared their first innings on 705 for 7 in the 2004 Test. This massive total helped India draw the 2003/04 series.

India have logged their highest successful run chase at Brisbane. They thrashed the 328-run target set by the hosts to become the fifth team to win a Test at Brisbane.

India have won at least one Test at six Australian venues, which is the second-most by an overseas team after England.

After their 1978 win, India have not won in 11 Tests in a row at the SCG, their longest winless streak at an Australian venue. This is the same venue where India have drawn the most Tests (7) down under.
