Key Insights – Boundary Kings (Leading Fours in an IPL Match by a Batter)

Paul Valthaty and AB de Villiers hold the joint record for the most fours in an IPL innings. Both batters smashed 19 boundaries in their respective outings. Valthaty was the first to do so in 2011, while de Villiers imitated the feat in 2015.

There are 11 instances of batters hitting 15 or more in an IPL innings. Apart from the above entries, Rishabh Pant is the other batter who smashed 15 fours in his 128* versus Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018.

Murali Vijay’s 15 fours in his 113-run knock are the most in an IPL playoff innings. He did so in the second qualifying match against Delhi in 2012.

If we trim down to the IPL final, then only two batters have smashed 10 or more fours. Wriddhiman Saha and Shane Watson scored 10 and 11 boundaries in the 2014 and 2018 finals, respectively. Interestingly, both batters scored hundreds at that time.

Punjab Kings (or Kings XI Punjab) have conceded 15 or more fours at the hands of three opponent batters, the most for a team.

David Warner has smacked 10 or more fours in 13 innings, the most by a batter in the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan follows him with 12 instances.
