Key Season-wise Batting Records in the Vijay Hazare Trophy
A total of 22 instances have been recorded where a batter has amassed three or more centuries in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Indian international Mayank Agarwal is the only batter to have done it twice.
Apart from Agarwal and Karun Nair, Punjab’s Prabhsimran Singh and Vidarbha’s Dhruv Shorey are the other batters to have made three tons in the 2023/24 edition of the VHT.
With a staggering 779 runs from eight outings, Karun Nair, one of India’s Test triple centurions, recorded a batting average of 389.50 in the 2024 edition of VHT, the highest ever in a single season. He was dismissed only twice and scored five centuries in the tournament.
Virat Kohli was the first batter to score three or more tons in a single season, achieving the feat in the 2008/09 edition. He was followed by Naman Ojha and Shreevats Goswami, who struck three centuries each in the 2009/10 edition.
Overall, Ankit Bawne of Maharashtra holds the record for the most centuries in the history of VHT. In 89 innings, Bawne has made 15 centuries, with the 2023/24 season being his best edition where he made three tons.
A total of seven batters have made a double century in VHT, with Narayan Jagadeesan’s 277 being the highest. Karn Kaushal (202) of Uttarakhand was the first to achieve a double ton in VHT, back in the 2018/19 edition.
