Key Insights – Most Dot Balls in a Single IPL Season
Dale Steyn has delivered the most dot balls in an IPL season. He sent down 219 dots for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Steyn’s dot ball percentage of 53.80 is also the highest among those who’ve bowled more than 170 dots in an IPL season.
Sunil Narine has bowled the most dot balls among spinners in an IPL edition. 183 of his 384 deliveries in 2013 were dots. Interestingly, KKR finished out of top-4 in that year.
Mohammed Shami is the only bowler to bowl more than 170 dot balls each in two IPL seasons. Notably, he did so in consecutive seasons in 2022 (172) and 2023 (193) for Gujarat Titans.
Deepak Chahar bowled 162 of his 190 dot balls in the powerplay overs in 2019. This is the most dots by a bowler in the first six overs in an IPL edition.
Rashid Khan has sent down the most dot balls in the middle overs in a season. He delivered 164 of them for SRH in 2020. Notably, Rashid is the only bowler to bowl 150-plus dots in this phase in a season. Rashid is one of the very few bowlers to have bowl 1000+ dot balls in T20 Internationals.
Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, has bowled the most dots in the death overs in an edition, having sent down 66 in 2019.
Narine is the only bowler to deliver 50-plus dots in the death overs in three different seasons, having done so in three consecutive editions in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
