IPL Stats: Shivam Dube Batting Record vs Pace and Spin

Since Shivam Dube joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2022, he has become the backbone of their batting lineup.

The tall left-hander can tear down any bowler, be it spinners or pacers, with his powerful strokes that sail over the boundary ropes. However, that wasn’t always the case.

Dube’s ability to counter spinners was top-notch, but he struggled against short-pitched deliveries bowled by pacers. However, the southpaw batter has improved his game against pace in recent times to complement his spin-bashing.

Key Insights

Shivam Dube’s strike rate against both pacers and spinners is quite similar, ranging between 145 and 150.

However, if we look at his stats since IPL 2023, the southpaw batter strikes at around 163 against pacers and 175 against spinners. This is a significant rise considering his strike rate was just 137 and 127, respectively, from his debut in 2019 to 2022.

The same is the case with his batting average. Dube used to average around 21 (422 runs vs pace) and 38 (266 runs vs spin) between 2019 and 2022. But, since 2023, he’s averaging around 42 versus pace and 55 against spin, which is a considerable improvement.

Among the pacers, Dube’s record against right-arm pacemen is quite strong, scoring 700+ runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 141. And speaking of tweakers, he bashes wrist spinners at a strike rate of 155, scoring 270+ runs at an average of around 38.

Since Dube’s entry point is mostly in middle overs (7-16), he has accumulated 500+ runs each against pacers (Avg: 34, SR: 140) and spinners (Avg: 45, SR: 147) in that phase (since 2019).

The left-hand batter’s strike rate jumps to 172 in death overs against pace. On the other hand, he hasn’t faced tweakers a lot in the last four overs.

Since the IPL 2023, Dube has transformed into a clean striker of the ball, hitting a boundary after every 4.8 balls against pace and 4.6 balls against spin.
