Key Insights – Leading Run Scorers: WTC 2025-27
Shubman Gill scored 754 runs across 10 innings in the 2025 Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy, the second-most by an Indian batter in a bilateral Test series.
Gill’s 754 runs on the England tour are also the second-most by a captain in a bilateral Test series. And it is the most by a visiting Test captain.
Gill, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja became the first Indian trio to score 500 or more runs each in a single bilateral Test series. Rahul aggregated 532 runs (10 innings), while Jadeja accumulated 516 runs (10 innings) on the 2025 England tour.
Rishabh Pant finished the England tour with 479 runs in seven innings, the most by an Indian wicketkeeper in an overseas bilateral Test series.
Joe Root scored his career’s first Test hundred on Australian soil, remaining unbeaten on 138 in the first innings of the 2025 Brisbane Test.
This was Root’s 40th Test century, making him only the fourth batter to achieve this feat in red-ball cricket.

Shubman Gill brought up the first double century of the WTC 2025–27 cycle. He hammered a 269-run knock against England in the 2025 Birmingham Test. This is the highest individual score by an Indian captain in Tests.
Gill’s 269 is also the highest individual score by an Indian batter in WTC history.
Gill became the first batter to smash five centuries in the WTC 2025–27 edition. Four of his hundreds came on the England tour, the joint-most by an Indian and by a captain in a Test series. This is also the most number of Test tons a batter has scored in 2025.
West Indies’ Justin Greaves became the seventh batter to score a double century in the fourth innings of a Test match. He scored an unbeaten 202 to pull off a draw against New Zealand in the 2025 Christchurch Test.
Pathum Nissanka’s 187 against Bangladesh in the 2025 Galle Test is the highest score by an opener in this WTC cycle.
Jamie Smith’s unbeaten 184 against India in the 2025 Birmingham Test is the highest score by a wicketkeeper-batter in this cycle.
Joe Root brought up his 16th 150-plus score in the 2025 Manchester Test against India.
Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto became the first batter to score two centuries in the same Test in the 2025–27 WTC edition. He scored 148 and 125* against Sri Lanka in the 2025 Galle Test. Najmul is also the first Bangladeshi batter to score twin-centuries in Test cricket twice.
Pant and Gill are the other batters with twin centuries in the ongoing WTC cycle.
Pant, in fact, became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to smash twin centuries in the same Test match.
Gill, meanwhile, became the third Indian skipper to bring up two hundreds in the same Test match.
