Individual Half-Century Milestone Records in ODIs

Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most half-centuries in ODI cricket, having smashed 96 in his career.

Tendulkar has also brought up the most fifty-plus scores in ODIs, with 145 knocks to his name.

AB de Villiers has struck the fastest fifty in ODIs, going past the 50-run mark off just 16 balls against the West Indies in the 2015 Johannesburg match. ABD eventually went on to smash the fastest ODI hundred off 31 deliveries.

Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq has scored the most half-centuries in a calendar year in ODIs, having smashed 15 in 2013.

India’s Harbhajan Singh has scored the most runs without smashing a single fifty in ODIs. He aggregated 1237 runs in 128 innings, with his highest score being 49 against Australia in the 2009 Vadodara ODI.

Venue and Conditions-Based Half-Century Records in ODIs

Jacques Kallis scored 40 of his 86 fifties in South Africa, the most by a batter at home soil in ODIs.

MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid share the record for the most half-centuries in away ODIs, with 37 scores each to their names.

Shakib Al Hasan has scored the most fifties at a single venue in ODIs, having brought up 22 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

West Indies’ Viv Richards has smashed the most half-centuries against an ODI team. He scored 20 fifties against Australia in 50 innings.

Tendulkar is the only batter to score 15 or more fifties against three teams in ODIs. He scored 17 half-centuries against Sri Lanka, 16 against Pakistan, and 15 against Australia.

Position and Role Specific ODI Half-Century Records

75 of Tendulkar’s half-centuries came while opening for India. This is the most fifties by an opener in ODIs.

Ricky Ponting scored 51 of his 82 half-centuries while leading Australia. This is the most fifties by a captain in ODIs.

69 of Ponting’s 82 fifties came in winning causes, the most by a batter in ODI victories.

Kumar Sangakkara brought up 91 of his 93 knocks as a wicketkeeper for Sri Lanka. This is the most fifties by a wicketkeeper in ODIs.

Sangakkara also has the most fifties in losing causes in ODIs, with 36 of his scores ending up on the wrong side.
