Prolific Scoring Records for T20I Skippers in a Year
Pakistan’s Babar Azam holds the record for scoring the most T20I runs in a calendar year as a captain, accumulating 939 runs in 2021.
With that, Azam became the first skipper to score 500-plus runs in a single year. He also became the first captain to score 500-plus runs in consecutive years in T20Is. Azam followed 2021 with 735 runs in 2022.
UAE’s Muhammad Waseem, however, has scored 500-plus runs in the most consecutive years, having done so three times in 2023 (664 runs), 2024 (849 runs), and 2025 (669 runs).
Japan’s Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming has scored the most runs in a year as an associate team’s captain in T20Is. He accumulated 860 runs in 20 innings at an impressive strike rate of 151.14 in 2024.

Azam’s 939 runs in 2021 included 99 fours, the most by a captain in a calendar year in T20Is.
Muhammad Waseem has smashed the most sixes in a calendar year as a captain in T20Is. He sent down 49 sixes in 23 outings in 2024.
Azam also smashed 10 fifty-plus scores in 2021, the most by a skipper in a year in T20Is.
Switzerland’s Faheem Nazir is the only skipper to score two centuries in a year in T20I cricket, having done so in 2022.
