Virat Kohli (12) and Rahul Dravid (10) are the other two batters with 10 or more Test centuries in SENA nations.
Tendulkar, Dravid, and Kohli are also the top three run-scorers in SENA. Tendulkar leads the run chart with 5387 runs, while Dravid (3909) and Kohli (3781) follow him.
Seven of Kohli’s hundreds came in Australia, the most by an Asian batter in one of the SENA countries.
Over 110 batters have scored Test centuries in SENA countries, but only seven of them have brought up at least one in each of the four nations. Four of those batters – Tendulkar, Dravid, Kohli, and Mohammad Azharuddin – are from India, the most among Asian teams. The other Asian batters are Saeed Anwar, Younis Khan (both from Pakistan), and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.
England has seen over 70 Asian batters smash a ton in Tests, the most among the SENA countries.
Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas has recorded the highest individual score in SENA among Asian batters. He racked up a 274-run knock against England in the first innings of the 1971 Birmingham Test. Interestingly, Abbas was the first Asian double centurion in any of the SENA nations. This was also his first Test match in SENA.
Abbas is also one of the four Asian batters to score two Test double centuries in SENA countries. The other three batters are Javed Miandad (ENG & NZ), Mohammad Yousuf (NZ & ENG), and Rahul Dravid (ENG vs AUS). Abbas’ other double ton also came in England.
Kohli has smashed the most Test hundreds in SENA among Asian captains. Seven of his 12 centuries came as India’s skipper in SENA Tests.
India’s Rishabh Pant is the only Asian wicketkeeper-batter to score five or more centuries in SENA Tests. He is also the lone Asian keeper to bring up hundreds in three of the four SENA nations. Pant will join this elite list, if he can come up with a Test century in New Zealand in his career.
