Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the fastest-ever fifty by any cricketer in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He crossed the 50-run mark in 13 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens in 2023.
While doing so, Jaiswal beat the then all-time quickest fifty record held jointly by two players – Pat Cummins and KL Rahul, who reached the milestone previously in 14 balls.
Let’s quickly jump to the list of cricketers who scored the fastest fifties in IPL.

Jaiswal’s incredible knock is also the fastest IPL fifty in an away game.
Before Jaiswal’s 13-ball blitz, the 14-ball record was shared by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins for over a year. The 15-ball mark is the most “crowded” tier, now featuring six different players including the young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Romario Shepherd (RCB) joined the 14-ball club on May 3, 2025, against CSK.
Suresh Raina’s 16-ball 50 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the Wankhede Stadium is the quickest IPL fifty in a knockout game. Raina’s hammering innings came in the second Qualifier of IPL 2014, where Punjab won against CSK. (Find here the list of centuries scored in knock-out games in the IPL.)
Jake Fraser-McGurk’s 15-ball half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024 is the fastest IPL fifty in a losing cause. Despite his heroics, Delhi Capitals lost that match by 67 runs.
Nicholas Pooran, Travis Head, and Fraser-McGurk are the only three batters to score three or more fifties under 20 balls in the IPL, with Fraser being the only one with two under-15 balls 50s in the tournament.
In the above list, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians have the most entries – seven each. And MI also top as the team with the most entries (nine) on the receiving end of the quick fifties.
Team-wise Distribution (Under 20 Balls)
The list is dominated by teams that historically prioritize high-intent powerplay batting.
| Team | Entries | Key Players (Balls Taken) |
| Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | 7 | Pat Cummins (14), Yusuf Pathan (15), Sunil Narine (15, 17, 19), Andre Russell (19), Venkatesh Iyer (19) |
| Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) | 7 | Abhishek Sharma (16, 18, 19), Travis Head (16, 16, 18), Heinrich Klaasen (17) |
| Mumbai Indians (MI) | 6 | Ishan Kishan (16, 17), Suryakumar Yadav (17), Hardik Pandya (17), Kieron Pollard (17), Sanath Jayasuriya (17) |
| Rajasthan Royals (RR) | 5 | Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (15, 17), Jos Buttler (18, 19) |
| Delhi Capitals (DC) | 5 | Jake Fraser-McGurk (15, 15, 19), Chris Morris (17), Rishabh Pant (18) |
| Punjab Kings (PBKS) | 4 | KL Rahul (14), Nicholas Pooran (17), Priyansh Arya (19), Chris Gayle (19) |
| Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) | 3 | Romario Shepherd (14), Chris Gayle (17), Robin Uthappa (19) |
| Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) | 2 | Nicholas Pooran (15, 18) |
| Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | 2 | Suresh Raina (16), MS Dhoni (18) |
| Deccan Chargers (DEC) | 1 | Adam Gilchrist (17) |
SRH has seen the most rapid growth in this category, with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma combined accounting for 6 of their 7 entries within the 2024–2025 seasons alone.
KKR and MI lead the overall count (6-7 entries) primarily because they have historically utilized “pinch hitters” like Narine or specialist finishers like Pollard and Russell.
If we narrow the filter to only the most extreme “lightning” fifties, the list shrinks significantly:
- RR: 2 (Jaiswal 13, Sooryavanshi 15)
- KKR: 3 (Cummins 14, Pathan 15, Narine 15)
- PBKS: 1 (Rahul 14)
- RCB: 1 (Shepherd 14)
- DC: 2 (Fraser-McGurk 15, 15)
- LSG: 1 (Pooran 15)
Teams Conceded Most Under-20 Balls Fifties in IPL

When Chris Gayle completed his fifty in 17 balls against the Pune Warriors, he went on to hammer the highest individual score — 175 not out. During his whirlwind knock, Gayle attained his hundred off 30 balls, which is the quickest ton in the league.
Jake Fraser-McGurk is the only player to complete multiple fifties in 15 or fewer balls for the same IPL team. The Australian batter took exactly 15 balls to reach the fifty-run mark in two matches for Delhi Capitals in 2024.
