With each passing day, the T20I format is becoming cruel to bowlers. Batters are taking bowlers for a ride, smashing them all over the park.

The fearless attacking approach has resulted in bowlers taking massive hits. On some occasions, bowlers have even conceded crazy amounts of runs in a single over, making it an expensive affair.

This article will list the top 10 most expensive overs bowled in T20 World Cup history.

Key Insights

Stuart Broad and Azmatullah Omarzai hold the unwanted record for delivering the most expensive overs in T20 World Cup history. Broad conceded 36 runs in the 19th over he bowled against India in 2007. Yuvraj Singh smashed Broad for six sixes in six consecutive balls.

Stuart Broad and Kenya’s Lameck Onyango went on to concede 60 and 61 runs, respectively, in their four-over spells. These two spells feature among the top 10 most expensive bowling figures in the competition.

The match between Sri Lanka and Kenya in 2007 witnessed two Kenyan bowlers leak 25 or more runs in the same innings. In the 13th over, Steve Tikolo went for 25 runs, and in the 19th over, Onyango gave away 29 runs.

In the same match, Sri Lanka went on to post 260 runs — the highest team total in T20 World Cup history.

1: Yuvraj Singh is the only player to score and concede 25 or more runs while batting and bowling in an over. Before his fireworks against Stuart Broad (36), he leaked 25 runs off one over against New Zealand on September 16, 2007.

There are over 15 instances of bowlers conceding 25 or more runs in an over.
