The West Indies and South Africa hold the joint record for scoring the most runs in the last four overs in an innings in the T20 World Cup. The Windies scored 71 runs against Pakistan in 2014, and South Africa levelled the record in 2016 against Afghanistan.
In 2007, India became the first team to accumulate 70 runs in the death overs in a T20 World Cup innings.
Out of the 70 runs, 58 alone came off the bat of Yuvraj Singh, making it the most runs by a batter in the last four overs in an innings. What’s fascinating is that Yuvraj came to bat at 16.5 overs and completed his fifty in just 12 balls — the fastest fifty in the T20 World Cup. His blazing knock also included six sixes in an over.
120 runs aggregated by Australia and Pakistan in the death overs are the most by both teams in the same match. In the second semi-final of the 2010 edition, Pakistan scored 59 runs in the first innings, and Australia amassed 61 runs while successfully chasing the target.
There are two more instances of both teams scoring 50 or more runs in the death overs of a match. In 2014, South Africa (68) and England (51) accumulated a combined 119 runs, while in 2021, Pakistan (54) and Australia (50) aggregated 104 runs.
