Mumbai Indians do have a strong squad at their disposal, and the team management has done a great job at the IPL 2024 auction.
MI’s major concern was their bowling department, but that seemed to have been sorted with the inclusion of pacers Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, and SL’s relatively lesser-known pacer Nuwan Thushar to partner with the likes of Jason Behrendorff and Jasprit Bumrah.
MI squad: Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Vishnu Vinod, Arjun Tendulkar, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Jason Behrendorff, Romario Shepherd, Hardik Pandya (c), Gerald Coetzee, Dilshan Madushanka, Shreyas Gopal, Nuwan Thushara, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Mohammad Nabi, Shivalik Sharma
There has been considerable drama surrounding who will captain the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition. But there is no doubt about who will be opening the batting for the five-time champions. In all likelihood, Ishan Kishan will join forces with the former MI skipper, Rohit Sharma, at the top of the order.
The Mumbai Indians have a potent middle order in the form of No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has grown leaps and bounds in the format. He will most likely walk at No. 3, his usual position in MI.
He will have the company of India’s newest debutant, Tilak, along with the hard-hitting Tim David, who had a mixed last season. Nehal Wadhera, the 23-year-old, had an impressive IPL 2023 and will continue to be in MI’s playing XI.
Hardik Pandya returns to the place where it all began for him, and should he be fit, the all-rounder will take his place at No. 6 or 7. He will lead the side that is sure to have a foreign all-rounder in either Romario Shepard or Mohammad Nabi. (Check out Hardik Pandya’s captaincy record in IPL.)
MI have strengthened their bowling with the addition of South Africa’s newest sensation, Gerald Coetzee, and the young pacer is likely to take the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah. Piyush Chawla will be a specialist spinner, at least for the first few games, having been the highest wicket-taker for the team last year.
MI can go with 3 overseas players in the playing XI and then have either Jason Behrendorff or Dilshan Madushanka come in as an impact player, depending on the phase of the game.
MI’s Probale Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Hardik Pandya (c), Romario Shepard/Mohammad Nabi, Gerald Coetzee, Piyush Chawla, Jasprit Bumrah
