Historic Team Performance in T20Is

India’s highest team total in T20Is is 297 for 6, scored against Bangladesh in the 2024 Hyderabad T20I.

India’s 297 for 6 is their highest T20I total on home soil and the third-highest team total by a Test-playing nation in T20I cricket.

The Men in Blue’s highest team total in overseas T20Is is 283 for 1, registered against South Africa in the 2024 Johannesburg T20I.

The innings against South Africa recorded two individual centuries by Sanju Samson (109*) and Tilak Varma (120*). This was the third instance of two batters scoring centuries in the same T20I innings.

Scoring Milestones in T20Is

India posted their first 200-plus total in 2007 in a T20 World Cup match against England. Batting first, India scored 218 for 4, thanks to Yuvraj Singh’s (58 off 16) blistering knock towards the end of the innings. 

During his stay on the pitch, Yuvraj hit six sixes in an over, becoming the first batter to achieve the feat in T20Is.

India became the first team to score 200-plus totals in more than 30 T20I matches. Currently, India are also leading the pack with the most 200-plus totals in T20Is.

India have successfully defended totals above 200 runs the most times in T20Is.

India are the only team to score five or more totals of 240-plus runs in T20I cricket.

India are also one of the five teams to lose a T20I match after scoring 240-plus runs.

India’s highest team total in a losing cause is 244 for 4, scored against the West Indies in the 2016 Florida T20I. The Men in Blue failed to chase the 246-run target. 

India’s 244 for 4 is overall the second-highest team total in a losing cause in T20Is. This is also India’s highest team total in the second innings of a T20I match.

The Men in Blue recorded their highest successful run chase against Australia, gunning down a 209-run target in the 2023 Vizag T20I.

In all, India have made five successful run chases of 200 or more runs in T20Is.

India have scored eight 200-plus totals against South Africa, the joint-most by a team against an opponent in T20Is. South Africa have also posted eight 200-plus scores against India.
