The batters have a big task of helping their team put up competitive totals. During the process, many batters have performed consistently, getting big scores under their belt to swell their run tally.

And some batters did it with finesse within a single edition to aggregate loads of runs. On that note, here are the top 10 instances of the most runs scored in a single Champions Trophy edition.

474: Chris Gayle holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single Champions Trophy edition. The Universe Boss slammed 474 runs in eight innings at an average of 79 in the 2006 iteration played in India.

3: During the run-fest, Gayle also brought up three centuries, which are also the most by a batter in an edition. No other batter has scored more than two hundreds in one iteration.

300: Shikhar Dhawan is the only batter to rack up 300-plus runs in two Champions Trophy editions. The former Indian batter did so in consecutive iterations in 2013 (363) and 2017 (338), both hosted by England.

100: On both counts, Dhawan amassed runs at a 100-plus strike rate. He struck at 101.39 in 2013 and 101.80 in 2017. India’s other former opener, Virender Sehwag (271 at 120.44 in 2002), and Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman (252 at 113.00 in 2017) are the other two batters with 250-plus runs in an edition to strike above 100.

348: Sourav Ganguly’s 348 runs in the 2000 Champions Trophy are the most by a captain in an edition. Ricky Ponting (288 in 2009), Virat Kohli (258 in 2017), and Sanath Jayasuriya (254 in 2002) are the other skippers with 250-plus runs in an iteration.

10: Only four batters have smashed 10 or more sixes in a single Champions Trophy installation. Ganguly leads the pack with 12 maximums in 2000, while Shane Watson (11 in 2009), Gayle (10 in 2006), and Hardik Pandya (10 in 2017) follow him.

62: Gayle has also struck the most boundary fours in an edition. The left-hand batter scored 62 fours alongside his 10 sixes in 2006. He is the only batter to hit more than 50 fours in an edition.
