However, a few batters continue their momentum and convert their starts into brilliant centuries. Many notable batters have scored hundreds while dominating in a particular batting position.

India’s batter Rohit Sharma and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell are the leading centurions in the shortest format.
Sharma’s all hundreds have come as an opener, the most in the position in T20Is.
Rohit and Babar Azam (Pakistan) have each notched up three or more T20I hundreds as captains of their teams. Interestingly, both of the players have achieved this feat while opening the batting.
Sanju Samson has scored the most hundreds as a wicketkeeper while opening for India in T20Is. The keeper-batter has scored three centuries, two of them in consecutive innings.
Gustav Mckeon (France), Phil Salt (England), and Darius Visser (Samoa) are the other openers with consecutive T20I centuries.
South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and India’s Tilak Varma scored their both hundreds in consecutive T20I innings while batting at No. 3.
Australia’s former captain, Aaron Finch, scored the highest score as an opener in the 20-over format. He accumulated 172 runs in 76 balls against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad has smashed the fastest T20I century as an opener, reaching the 100-run mark off 29 balls against Bulgaria in 2025. This is also the fastest hundred by a wicketkeeper in T20Is.
The overall quickest hundred belongs to Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who brought up his hundred in 27 balls while batting at No. 4 against Cyprus in a 2024 T20I match. Eventually, Chauhan remained unbeaten on 144, the highest score by a No. 4 batter in T20Is.
Four of Maxwell’s tons have come while batting at No. 4, the most in that position in T20Is.
David Miller, who has two centuries at No. 5, has also struck the highest score in that position. He smashed an unbeaten 106 against India in the 2022 Guwahati T20I.
Only four batters have scored T20I centuries while coming to bat at the No. 6 or lower position in T20Is.
Belgium’s Shaheryar Butt, who was the first No. 6 batter to score a T20I century, holds the highest score in that position. He scored an unbeaten 125 against the Czech Republic in 2020.
Namibia’s JJ Smith (111*) is the fastest centurion at No. 6 in T20Is, reaching the 100-run mark in 37 deliveries against Kenya in 2025.
Saber Zakhil is the sole tailender – No. 8 to No. 11 – to bring up the three-digit figures in T20Is.
Zakhil came to bat on the last ball of the fifth over when Belgium were six down on 14 runs. Then he played an impressive knock of an unbeaten 100 to lift his team’s total to 146 for 8.
