2018 Cricket Records – A Cricket Diary

Here, in this article, you will find out the complete set of all-formats Cricket records for the year 2018!

2018 had been a wonderful year for Cricket and its fans.

Especially, Test Cricket has seen its most engaging year in a long time. Only 5 off the 48 Test matches in 2018 ended in Draws, which is the fewest in a Calendar year, among the years that have conducted at least 10 Tests.

Having said that, the shorter formats too had a great year with few nail-biting finishes like the one in the Nidahas Trophy final.

Virat Kohli – the Run machine, had his best year with the bat, once again in 2018. He is in a kind of form, where only he can break his annual reports every next year.

Check onto our updated report on Virat’s Year by Year analysis till 2018.

Among the bowlers, we have seen Rashid Khan taking over the shortest formats games like a king and Kagiso Rabada, amazing in the longest.

The Indian trio of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami & Jasprit Bumrah is a yet another hit news in 2018. Together they picked 136 Test wickets this year.  The Trio has overcome the 34-year-old record set by the legendary West Indies trio of Joel Garner, Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall – 130 wickets in 1984.

Test Cricket Records – 2018

2018 started with some serious clashing of the big boys, a dead rubber in The Ashes, where Australia trashed England 4-0 to only followed by one of the most controversial outings in Test history – The Sandpaper Scandal. It ended with the suspensions of Australian Captain & Vice Captain – Steve Smith & David Warner along with Cameron Bancroft.

The two-Test Series Results, that stood out in the year 2018 were

  1. Pakistan drew the 2-match Test Series in England (1-1)
  2. England thrashing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka (3-0)

India had a complicated year in Test Cricket.

India’s overseas wins in 2018 came in Johannesburg, Nottingham, Adelaide & Melbourne. Never before Indian team had 4 Overseas Test victories in a year.

Still, their Overseas Test Results read 2-1 loss in South Africa & 4-1 loss in England. Above these results, the most disappointing factor, to me, is India was in great position to win in few of their lost matches, but couldn’t, thanks to their let-go attitude towards the opponents’ lower order.

Also, India played the most Test Matches in 2018, with a win% of 50.00.

The two teams, who have done better than India in 2018 are,

  1. England – 61.53% (8 wins out of 13)
  2. South Africa – 60.00% (6 wins out of 10)

Here are the complete Test Records of Teams in 2018:

India and England are easily the best teams in ODI in 2018.

India with 14 Wins in 20 ODI matches they played in the year, had their best series of the year in South Africa, where they beat the hosts 5-1 after the Test Series loss.

They went on to win the Asia Cup 2018 without a single loss. India winning the 2 straight games against Pakistan, their arch-rivals in the tournament was the highlighting factor.

Their only ODI series loss of the year came against England in England, where they lost 2-1.

England, the No.1 ODI team, won against few big hosting nations Australia (4-1), New Zealand (3-2) & Sri Lanka (3-1) and they won against India (2-1) in the Home Series.

The other team, which was quite impressive throughout this year is Afghanistan. The World Cup Qualifiers Tournament Winners, won their ODI series against Zimbabwe & Ireland quite convincingly, which is adequate to term them as a team with the potential of “more than an associate”.

Here are the teams’ records in ODI in 2018:

T20 International Records – 2018

Finally, the shortest format of the game, which I think is taking Cricket to reach nooks and corners of the globe, is here.

We have missed the T20 World Cup, in 2018. For someone who is wondering why – ICC has an answer for this!

To start with, Afghanistan won 7 out of their 7 T20 matches they played this year.

They beat

  • Zimbabwe (2-0) in UAE
  • Bangladesh (3-0) in India
  • Ireland (2-0) in Ireland

Pakistan, the No.1 ranked T20 team have won 17 of their 19 T20 games in 2018. That’s 89.47% of just winning!

They have beaten New Zealand and Scotland in Away games earlier in 2018 and then beaten West Indies, Australia & New Zealand, once again in Home (UAE).

They managed to beat Australia once again in the T20 tri-series final in UAE, which had Zimbabwe as the 3rd team. They haven’t lost a T20 Series this year.

The other team, which haven’t lost a T20 series in 2018 is India.

And then there is Rashid Khan who continues to impress in the shorter formats with his extremely accuracy & the wicket taking ability.
