Australia, in 2004, became the first team to win a BGT series in away conditions. And India with victories in the 2019 and 2021 editions in the Australian venues, India became the first side to win two back-to-back overseas BGT titles.

The only drawn Test series was held in 2003/04 in Australia when both sides shared the scoreline with one win each.

The 2023 edition of the BGT was won by India (2-0), and the boards have announced that this will be the last edition to be played as 4-match Test series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played as a 5-match Test series from the next edition.
