India have recorded the fastest 300-plus run chase in ODIs, overhauling the 321-run target set by Sri Lanka in 36.4 overs in the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Series.

Speaking of the ODI World Cup, Bangladesh have logged the quickest 300-plus chase in the 50-over event. They overhauled the 322-run target against the West Indies at Taunton in the 2019 edition.

Zimbabwe have registered the fastest 300-plus run chase at home, as they needed 40.5 overs to chase 316 against the Netherlands in the 2023 World Cup Qualifier.

World Records in Highest and Most Extreme Chases

South Africa have made the highest successful run chase in ODIs, gunning down Australia’s 435 in 49.5 overs in the famous Johannesburg match in 2006.

This is, in fact, the only instance of a 400-plus run chase in 50-over cricket.

The Proteas recorded a run rate of 8.78 while scoring 438 for 9, the highest by a team in a successful chase in ODIs.

There is only one instance of a team using the complete 50 overs to chase a 300-plus run target in ODIs. South Africa finished the 303-run chase on the last ball against the West Indies in the 2010 Dominica ODI.
