In July 2024, Shubman Gill became the third youngest player to lead India in T20Is at the age of 24 years and 302 days against Zimbabwe.

A year later, he became the fifth youngest Indian Test skipper, leading the squad against England at the age of 25 years and 285 days.

Captaincy Success in Team Results and Series

Gill led India to a 4-1 victory in his debut T20I series as captain, becoming the fourth Indian skipper to win a five-match T20I series.

India has won two Tests under Gill’s captaincy in England, the joint-second most for an Indian captain on English soil.

Gill became the third full-time Indian captain to draw a bilateral Test series in England after Sourav Ganguly (2002) and Virat Kohli (2021-22).

Exclusive Batting Records Achieved as Skipper

Gill aggregated 754 runs in 10 innings on the 2025 England tour, the second-most by a batter in his debut Test series as captain. This is also the second-highest run tally by a captain in a five-match Test series.

Gill’s run tally included four centuries, the joint-most by a captain in a bilateral Test series. Find the overall list here.

Gill’s 269-run knock is the highest individual score by a captain for India in the longest format.

Two of those centuries (269 & 161) came in the Birmingham Test, making him the third Indian skipper to smash twin hundreds in the same Test.

Gill became the first Indian skipper to score a double century and a hundred in a Test match, while he’s overall the second to achieve this feat.
