Key Insights: Top Performers Behind the Stumps

MS Dhoni has made the most dismissals in IPL history. He is, in fact, the only keeper with more than 200 dismissals in this T20 league.

Dhoni has also grabbed the most catches and effected the most stumpings in the IPL, with him being the only one with 150-plus catches and 40-plus stumpings.

Nitin Saini has the best dismissals per innings ratio as a wicketkeeper in the IPL (minimum 10 dismissals). He made 11 dismissals across nine innings to have a ratio of 1.222.

Kumar Sangakkara has made the most dismissals as a wicketkeeper in an IPL innings. He held onto five catches for Deccan Chargers against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad in 2011. See which non-WK fielder holds this record here.

Sangakkara’s five catches are also the most by a wicketkeeper in an IPL innings.

Dhoni, Robin Uthappa and Heinrich Klaasen have effected three stumpings each in an IPL innings, the joint-most among wicketkeepers.

Dhoni, in fact, has made three stumpings each in two innings, with both instances coming against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai in 2010 and 2011.

Rishabh Pant holds the record for the most dismissals in an IPL season. He featured in 24 dismissals, taking 18 catches and effecting six stumpings, for Delhi Capitals in 2019.

Quinton de Kock (22 in 2020) and Jitesh Sharma (20 in 2025) are the other keepers with 20 or more dismissals in an IPL season.

19 of Jitesh’s 20 dismissals were catches, the most by a wicketkeeper in a single IPL edition.

Adam Gilchrist, meanwhile, has made the most stumpings in an IPL season, with eight successful attempts for Deccan Chargers in 2009.

Dhoni is the only wicketkeeper with more than 50 dismissals at a single venue in IPL, having done so at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Dinesh Karthik, meanwhile, is the lone keeper with 20 or more dismissals at two different venues, having made 21 at Wankhede Stadium and 20 at Eden Gardens.

Dhoni has 20 or more dismissals each against six IPL teams. Karthik follows him with 20-plus dismissals against three teams.
