Shikhar Dhawan in the IPL was a different beast. The super-successful opening batter always contributed to any side he was part of.
Having started his IPL career with Delhi, his hometown, the Indian opener was part of different IPL sides.
One of the elite batters to reach 5000+ runs in the IPL, Dhawan opened the batting for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Deccan Chargers for two years each. His journey resumed with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he spent the major chunk of his career – six years.
In 2020, Dhawan was back in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp. This time, the stay lasted for two years before he joined the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side in 2022.
This article will list the season-wise runs chart of Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian Premier League.

Despite being in different colours, Dhawan was one of the most consistent players in the tournament. Except for his two years with MI and one injury-stricken 2024 season with PBKS, he never had fewer than 300 runs in any season. There are nine 400+ runs seasons, which include five 500+ seasons.
One thing that remained out of range from Dhawan’s shelf of appreciation was the Orange Cap in the IPL, to which he came so close in the season of 2020.
The Indian opener is the first and currently the only batter to score more than 6000 IPL runs while batting as an opener.
He is one of the highest four-hitters in IPL history, even after he is not part of the tournament.
Shikhar loves to play long innings – the reason why he has the most unbeaten innings among the opening batters, 23 to be precise.
Among the bowlers Dhawan faced in the IPL, seven dismissed him four times each.
Having played since the tournament’s inaugural edition, Dhawan is placed second on the list of batters who have faced the most balls (5324). You know who’s ahead of him!
Being the opener also helped Dhawan to top the list of batters with the most runs (3391) in the powerplay overs in the IPL.
