ICC Champions Trophy – Winners List (Since 1998)

The Champions Trophy (CT) was commenced in the year 1998 with 9 teams vying for the top prize and South Africa became the inaugural champions. Since then, we have had 7 editions and the 2025 CT of this prestigious ODI tournament will be hosted by Pakistan where they will also enter as the defending champions in their first reign.

Till date, 14 teams have participated in the Champions Trophy with 7 teams have winning the event at least once. The sides New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, and the West Indies have all conquered CT at least once.

2: India and Australia have won the Champions Trophy two times each, the most by any team in history.

South Africa’s only win in an ICC event came in the CT when they won the inaugural edition (1998) held in Bangladesh by defeating the West Indies in the final by 4 wickets.

West Indies, India, and England have ended up being the runners-up twice each in this tourney.

The 2002 edition that took place in Sri Lanka saw India and the hosts emerging as the joint winners because the final game between the two sides was deemed a no-result due to rain.
