Key Insights

Thanks to the Kiwi superstar Brendon McCullum, the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off in 2008 in the most destructive manner possible. He scored an unbeaten 158 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match.

That year, five more batsmen crossed the 100-run mark, taking the century tally to six, the joint fifth-most with the 2011, 2012, and 2019 seasons.

The most number of centuries scored in one season is 14 during the 2024 season. It is followed by the 2023 season with 12 hundreds.

The 2016 season saw seven centuries being hit. Surprisingly, Virat Kohli contributed four of those, the joint-most by a batter in a season. Find out Virat’s season-by-season stats here. Jos Buttler levelled Kohli’s record in 2022 as he contributed four of the total eight tons in that season.
